Nichol Wolverton
Nichol is the lead guide and founder of Fun Hog Adventures LLC. In his other job he is a high school math and science teacher in Fort Collins, CO. When he's not in the classroom, you'll find him splitboarding, running trails, mountain biking, rock climbing, or simply playing outside with friends.
Passionate about adventure and the outdoors, Nichol embraces every opportunity to explore and connect with nature while sharing those experiences with others. With over a decade of guiding experience, he’s passionate about helping participants of all ages explore the backcountry, step out of their comfort zones, and connect with nature. Since 2009, Nichol has been leading overnight adventure trips for teenagers. He is a master at facilitating challenging experiences that require students to step to the edge of their comfort zone but not beyond.

Rachel Hesse
Rachel is back for her second Fun Hog Adventures Backpacking Trip, after guiding alongside Nichol on the 2024 San Juan Mountains trip.
Originally from Wisconsin, she moved to Colorado in 2012 pursuing a career in special education and to immerse herself in the mountains. She currently teaches at Boltz Middle School in the Bridge Autism program. On the weekends, you’ll find her hiking, rock climbing, running, or exploring new terrain with her four-legged adventure buddy, Beyla.
Rachel has a deep love for the outdoors and finds peace in nature, always seeking new challenges that push her limits. In the summer of 2024, she summited Longs Peak, a 14er highlight that fueled her passion for high-altitude adventures. She also shares her love of running as a cross-country coach at Boltz Middle School.
Whether leading backpacking trips, or tackling rugged trails, Rachel is dedicated to inspiring confidence, resilience, and a lifelong connection to the wild.
